Yeah, I know, vitamin D is one of the most important nutrients ever, and we make it naturally by way of exposure to the sun! However... none of us at this latitude get enough sunlight to make enough vitamin D anyway (as evidenced by the epidemic of vitamin D deficiency!) but we do get enough to suffer from the harmful effects of the UV rays! Womp womp.
A good clean sunscreen will help to protect your skin!
But wait! There's more!
Moisturizing your skin - especially as you get older - may even add an extra layer of protection against dementia! What?! It sounds like BS, but it's true. The mechanism is that some forms of dementia have been linked to increased inflammatory responses in the body. And since the skin is one of the biggest organs, anything that helps to reduce skin inflammation can have a significant effect on systemic inflammation!
BTW... as a goth kid, I never had any problem with being even more pasty looking, so, I was not aware that my darker-skinned friends did not enjoy the chalky look that most sunblocks conferred! If you are a darker hued human looking for a really clean product for moisturizing and sunscreen properties, I recommend this line by Beautycounter.

p.s. and yes! even if it's cloudy! My Gramma Blanche used to always tell the story of how she got the worst sunburn of her entire life on a cloudy day! She was just a baby and they did not bother to put her in the shade because it was so cloudy, but she burned so bad that they had to cut the clothes off of her! 😱 It's true, you don't have baby thin skin, but... skin does get thinner as you get older, too, sooooo........ I'm just sayin!
