My big personal "health event" last week was a visit to the dentist. It was just a 6-month visit - routine cleaning - but kind of a big deal for me, because like many of you (?), I never REALLY went in every 6 months... I only went in when there was a "problem." But last year, I re-committed myself to being REALLY proactive/preventive in my approach to my health - on ALL levels - even the dreaded dentist.
The visit was pretty uneventful; no (new) cavities, not much plaque, no deep gum pockets, no bleeding, etc. but I learned some valuable lessons from the trip. For one thing, I appreciate all of YOU who come HERE for preventive care! As a patient, I had a lot of anxiety to overcome heading to that office, sitting in the waiting room, during the cleaning, etc. It takes a lot of courage to go to a doctor for "wellness" care! You're afraid of what they might find! BUT... on the other side of the coin... if you DO come in for real preventive care, you are usually rewarded for it. On this particular visit, I got a good "report card." Why? Well, probably because I've been brushing and flossing like I'm supposed to, and I was just in there 6 months ago. Not like before, where it was like... um, 5 YEARS or whatever since that last visit and therefore some thousands (doh!) worth of work to be done! So it is with preventative chiropractic or whatever else. It really does save time, money and stress at the end of the day if you stay on top of it. It's not a "trick." Anyway, if you're curious about who my dentist is, I go to Transcendentist .
(It's a big deal for me, because I'm TERRIFIED of dental pain. I think I even cried on my way to the first appointment! Yeah - got some NET on that, too, ha!) Anyway, that's the wellness report for today. I'm seeing my chiropractor on Friday and my acupuncturist on Saturday.
