...and much more complicated, too. Too many people have this teeny tiny concept of “chiropractic.” It usually goes something like this : “A chiropractor cracks your back and makes your back feel better.” Hm... no wonder people balk if chiropractic treatments cost more than massage or are over so quickly! But we chiropractors are in a bit of a bind when trying to explain what it is we DO. In most states (in the U.S.A.), we’re really not allowed to publicly state that we can do anything other than address musculoskeletal pain or mild dysfunction. (This, by the way, is more about politics than science.) But, did you know that the very first chiropractic patient (whose name was Harvey Lillard) was cured of his deafness thanks to a chiropractic adjustment? The second chiropractic patient was a heart patient – not a back pain patient. While it’s pretty safe to say that chiropractic is not the cure for deafness or heart disease, it’s also safe to say that the chiropractic adjustment did *something* to those bodies that somehow facilitated the healing process. What was that? It wasn’t about back pain... Hmmmmm. I’m a bit of a truth fiend. I find it incredibly lame (to put it mildly) that there are so many restrictions on open discourse about health, what is it, where does it really come from, etc... These sound like philosophical questions, but they’re very practical and important when it comes to our HEALTH.

This (2007) marks my 10th year in practice. In that time, I’ve adjusted thousands of people. Yeah, I’ve eased a lot of back and neck pain, but that’s not why I stay in practice. (I still owe a lot of money on that student loan.) Truthfully, I stick with chiropractic because of all the strange and great stuff I get to hear and see. Most people show up looking for pain relief. Many of them end up experiencing improvements in areas where they may not have even dared to hope improvement could come. (I’m not legally allowed to say what any of these great results are. I think I could even get in trouble for letting other people tell their incredible stories on my website.) You know, in conventional medicine, you never hear about “great side effects.” Wouldn’t that be nice? “Hey man, I just started on this new anti-fungal drug, and you know what? Suddenly, my bum shoulder feels AWESOME and I can breathe through my nose for the first time in years!!” And yet... that’s the sort of stuff that we chiropractors hear all the time... “Hey! I went to this chiropractor because my back hurt, but then my stomach pain totally went away the same time as theback pain! So rad!”

Anyway, this was supposed to be the “bio” section of the website. However, I feel that it’s not that important that you know much about ME. Taking care of you is all about YOU. But if you must know... I was born in the Year of the Rat under the sun sign of Aquarius in Washington, DC. I come from a Korean working class family on my mom’s side and a big American military family on my dad’s side. (My dad’s people have served in every American war since the Revolution.) My Keirsey temperament is INTX (with a tendency towards INTP). My first Bachelor’s degree was in Nutrition. (My second was in Metaphysics.) I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University (near Atlanta). My first practice was in Atlanta (which I like, but I love San Francisco much more). I have advanced training in Addictionology (thus the C.Ad. after my name : Certified Addictionologist). I love movies and books, and I’m thinking about learning braille, because actually, I’d really like to be able to lay in bed with my eyes closed and just read with my fingers. I have no criminal record that I am aware of. (But Federal Marshals did come to my house one year on April Fool’s Day because I ordered a suspicious package from eBay. It looked like a bomb. But it was really just a parasite zapper.) I take between 200-300 hours per year of continuing education per year even though I am only required to take 12 to maintain my professional license. This is probably part of that truth fiend attribute mentioned earlier. I’m committed to excellence, and I take my own medicine, too.
